Trophy - Newton meet Bootle in final
Sunday 22nd August 2004
Newton le Willows and Bootle won their semi final ties to gain the right to meet in the final at Crow Lane East on Sunday 5th September.
Newton's star at Aigburth was SS Das, whose innings of 110 (102 balls, 9x4s, 2x6s) was the highlight of a total of 212-5 from 45 overs.
Liverpool, without veteran all rounder Geoff Blackburn, relied on captain Stephen Nealey after they had lost three wickets for 38. When he was out for 69 in the 44th over, it was all over as the home side ended on 183-8, Danny Barlow taking 3-50.
At Moor Park, Bootle elected to bat in the other semi final, against neighbours Northern. After being 103-4, Paddy McKeown hit 41 before wickets fell at the end of the innings for Bootle to finish at 184-8.
Northern started well with James Marshall (25) and Adrian Fraser (26) but three wickets fell cheaply before Carl Hey (50*) and John Wildman (22) added 54. Disaster then struck in the form of Chris Sainsbury, whose 5-18 took Northern from 137-4 to 148 all out.
