Littlewoods Gaming KO Trophy - Fraser hat trick aids Northern
Sunday 1st August 2004

There were two Littlewoods Gaming Knockout Trophy third round matches played today, at Caldy and Highfield.

Liverpool, in a positive move after their narrow one wicket victory at Hightown yesterday, close to bat first at Caldy and reached 216 all out in their 45 overs. Captain Steve Nealey shone with 78 and Daniel Jackson hit 57 with David Smith taking 5-34, giving him 11 wickets over the weekend.

The total proved to be beyond Caldy's capabilities as they were all out for 167 after 37 overs, Danny Hargreaves 41, Andy Lawley 35, Byron Cooper 30. Francois du Plessis took 3-19 for the visitors.

Highfield and Northern made a second attempt to fulfil their fixture, it having been postponed last Sunday. The Premier League side elected to bat, reaching 236 all out after 44 overs. Stephen Parry played brilliantly to reach 90 and with John Wildman (36) and James Marshall (34), Northern set Highfield a stern task after Steve Peet had been the home side's best bowler with 3-37.

Tariq-ur-Rehman (47) and Steve Peet (23*) could not stop their side being dismissed for 147 when Adrian Fraser (3-11) took a hat trick to claim the last three wickets of the innings. Parry took 2-25 and Jack Woosey 2-36.

The other two third round matches are scheduled to be completed next Sunday when Bootle entertain Wigan and Newton le Willows play host to neighbours Leigh.
