Haydock Cricket Club has announced today that their overseas player for 2003 will be Indian Test player, Sanjay Bangar.
In the current Test squad, 30 year old Bangar will be available for the full L&DCC programme next season and "with his wealth of experience, it is hoped he will attract other players to the club", said vice captain Craig Sackfield, who has worked exceptionally hard to bring the player to the club. "His ability to move the ball both ways whilst maintaining a good line and length will make him a more than useful player to have in our team. He is a genuine all rounder, although batting is his preferred strength and he likes to open the innings."
Sackfield went on, "Whilst Irfan Fazil did well last season, he lacked the experience to see us through at times to win matches. We played better than our final position in the table showed and sincerely hope that with Sanjay, we can climb the table and be away from the split at the time of the start of the feeder league system."
"We have secured the services of Sanjay Bangar through agent Paul Carrick and I'd like to thank him for what he's done to enable Haydock to have his signature."
Bangar began his cricket in Bombay before Railways offered him a place nine years ago. Consistent performances in the Ranji Trophy gave him a place in the Central Zone eleven in the Duleep and Deodhar Trophies. He made his Test début against England at Mohali last winter, was on the England tour in 2002 and is now doing battle with the West Indies in his home country.
