Bootle retain Trophy at Huyton
Tuesday 18th September 2001

CHELMERE HOMES TROPHY FINAL

The season drew to a close when Bootle, unbeaten in the Competition since 1995, beat Huyton by five wickets in a game held over from Sunday. Being asked to bat on a damp pitch, the home side had reached 48-2 when Peter White's dismissal started a collapse that saw the last eight wickets fall for 20 runs, Robin Fisher taking 4-23. Forsaking the tea interval in event of rain on what was already a heavily overcast afternoon, Bootle began disastrously losing Tommy Reilly for 5 but an innings of 40* by Richard Hignett saw the innings through, despite losing four more partners, to win by five wickets and retain the trophy they have held since 1996. scorecard
